Resolving Relayed Status
If you are able to connect to the Internet, but cannot get an inbound or outbound connection to the network, it may due to a firewall issue/configuration or your Hotspot is being relayed.

What Does "Relayed" Mean?

Hotspots being Relayed are not directly connected to the internet, but through another Hotspot on the Helium network and can adversely affect mining and earnings. Relayed Hotspots can be identified in Helium Explorer, Helium App, and through the SenseCAP M1 Dashboard as shown below.
SenseCAP M1 Dashboard - Relayed
Helium Explorer - Relayed
Helium App - Relayed

How To Get Out of Relayed Status

  1. 1.
Login to your router's admin panel
    • (ie., 192.168.1.100/192.168.0.1/)
  2. 2.
Locate DHCP Reservations/Servers, usually under Local Network
  3. 3.
    Turn off UPnP
  4. 4.
Open Port 44158 via TCP / Inbound / External
  5. 5.
You will need to reboot in the following order to ensure the settings have been applied.
    1. 1.
      Unplug everything (Modem + Router)
    2. 2.
Plug everything back in the following order.
      1. 1.
Modem ==> Wait until fully online to move to step 2.
      2. 2.
Router ==> Wait until fully online to move to step 3.
      3. 3.
Helium Miner ==> Optional, only if steps 1 & 2 above do not force new settings.

Congratulations, you should be be out of "Relayed" status.

4G / LTE Connections

Many 4G / LTE cellular network providers typically use what is called CGNAT for their data network. If you are using 4G / LTE cellular connection and DO NOT have a static IP assigned by your carrier, you will not be able to get your Hotspot out of "Relayed" status. It will not affect your Hotspot from a technical view, however, it may cause slower syncing and reduce your potential rewards.
It is highly suggested to contact your 4G / LTE cellular provider and request a static public IP address so you may resolve this issue.
You can read more about CGNAT below.

NOTE: Changes made to get out of "Relayed" status may take Helium Explorer and the Helium App up to 24-48 hours to show, but will not affect your earnings.
Changes will be reflected within 5-15 minutes inside the SenseCAP M1 Dashboard.
You should use the SenseCAP M1 dashboard status as the most accurate representation of your networks configuration.
Still Relayed?
If you are still seeing "Relayed" status in Helium Explorer and Helium App, please allow more time for the P2P network to reflect your changes.
This is usually because the IP address shown inside your SenseCAP M1 Dashboard is still showing a P2P address, again, time will resolve this issue.
PLEASE NOTE: In Step 1 and Step 4, Helium Hotspot's have 2 MAC-ID’s, one is for Wi-Fi connections, the other is for Ethernet connections.
If you are plugged in VIA Ethernet, you will port forward connections for the Helium Hotspot based on Ethernet IP only.
If you are connected VIA Wi-Fi, you will port forward connections for the Helium Hotspot based on Wi-Fi IP only.
ALSO: If you do see any NAT Type settings within your routers admin panel, please select "NONE or OPEN", but please ensure you understand this setting and double check your Internet connection after being applied.
You may also check your modem/router settings and documentation for more information on how to configure NAT Type.
